Synopsis

Even after having 5 tapes confiscated by Saddam’s regime this film is a beautifully shot and edited moving story. This was an Iraqi/ French collaboration set before the outbreak of the war in 2003.

Set in the southern marsh regions of Iraq, called Ahwar, an old man and his wife live a simple life in a thatched reed house. When his wife falls sick, he must find her medicine and this quest takes him from the southern marshes to the bustling and changing city of Baghdad.

Through his lonely journey the impeding war looms through the radio broadcasts he hears in the background. But his goal is to save his wife. He is a good man with a true heart who is both an emblem–and a victim–of the changing times.
