Synopsis
Shot on location in Baghdad in the aftermath of the US led invasion of Iraq, UNDEREXPOSURE blends reality and fiction to create a lyrical and textured work that attempts to capture the dizzying atmosphere of life during war and fiercely illuminates a part of the world long left in dim light.
Amidst the uncertainty regarding Iraq’s future and the instability of the country, this film was beautifully shot with no budget, out of date film material and equipment.
Friends, lovers, strangers and family members are woven together by the complexities of their new reality. The past is just behind them, with death as a constant companion into the future. Maysoun, the object of her brother and lover’s affections, finds solace in her sexuality. Hassan finds comfort in the belief that his films will outlive the cancer. Nassir experiences his first companionship and responsibility with the discovery of a dying Iraqi soldier.
