Today is a big day for Reel Festivals. We have films, poetry and music on today, all of it in Edinburgh for the first time and all of it beautifully crafted and a joy to be able to present.
The film today is our first Syrian film in the programme, Zabad (Foam) by Reem Ali, which is being shown together with a short called Lights, by Reem Ghazi. We are incredibly privileged to have the director of Zabad, Reem Ali, with us in Edinburgh. It’s her first time in the UK and the first time this film has ever been shown in public. It’s an amazing, beautiful allegory, focusing on a family being pulled apart by the difficult realities they face. Reem Ali will be present at the screening for a Q+A, this is a once off opportunity to meet and talk with someone who has arrived direct from Damascus. I can’t over emphasise the importance of this film, and we’re very thankful to Reem for making it over in the midst of such difficult circumstances.
Following this we are hosting the Reel Festivals Golden Hour at the Forest! This follows an extremely successful Golden Hour in Beirut last week, and many of the same participants are taking part including Lebanese and Syrian poets alongside Scotland’s Tom Pow, Emily Ballou, William Letford and Ryan Van Winkle. Expect many more surprises along the way…
There’s lots more events on through the week, please check here for more information.
